Volkswagen will present a number of its premieres at the Moscow International Automobile Salon 2010: the new Polo sedan, new Touareg Hybrid, the Volkswagen’s flagship Phaeton, and the new Amarok pickup.

For the first time, the public will see the new Polo sedan produced at the VOLKSWAGEN AG plant in Kaluga. The Polo sedan was designed specially for Russia and introduces new quality standards in the affordable small car class. The new model had been tested for a long time in various climatic areas and road conditions in Russia. As a result, the vehicle has a modern, reliable engine that is ideal for the Russian conditions, a galvanized, corrosion-resistant body (12 years guarantee against rust penetration), and suspension adapted for bad roads, as well as the cold climatic zone package. The car body is coated with resistant paints. Chromed components are also resistant to aggressive environments. The vehicle will have a 1.6 L, 105 HP petrol engine which is reliable, stable and requires minimum maintenance. The engine combines great dynamics and pulling power with very low fuel consumption. The Polo sedan can be equipped with 6-speed automatic transmission, which is a unique offer in this class. The prices for the Polo sedan start at 399,000 rubles.

The second premiere will be the Volkswagen flagship – the new Phaeton, a luxury sedan hand-manufactured at the Glass Manufacture in Dresden. The new Phaeton is even more perfect – the luxury sedan is offered with two wheelbase variants, a new brake system and comes standard with bi-xenon headlights and adaptive LED lighting.

Three petrol engines are offered as the Volkswagen Phaeton power unit. In addition to the direct-injection 206 kW/280 HP V6 FSI engine, you can select among the V8 and W12 petrol engines (246 kW/335 HP and
331 kW/450 HP).

Among the Russian premieres of Volkswagen is the Touareg Hybrid – the hybrid version of the new four-wheel drive off-roader, which traditionally leads the segment. The main component of the Touareg Hybrid power pack is the V6 TSI engine with supercharger – a 245 kW (333 HP) direct-injection petrol engine. When the V6 TSI engine and the electric motor are running together, the total power reaches 279 kW (380 HP), and the torque is 580 Nm. The combination of the supercharged V6 TSI engine with an electric motor allows to reduce fuel consumption to 8.2l/100 km.

The motor is powered from a nickel-metal hydride battery placed in the luggage compartment. The battery rated voltage is 288 V, capacity – 1.7 kWh, and the peak power is 38 kW. The battery charge is sufficient to drive a distance up to 2 km at 50 km/h using the electric motor power only.

The Volkswagen Touareg provides a combination of high-level comfort, sporty dynamics, elegant design and perfect quality. The wide range of petrol and diesel V6 and V8 engines is supplemented by the innovative 8‑speed automatic transmission capable of transmitting a torque up to 850 Nm.

The first European pickup from Volkswagen, the Amarok, which opens a new chapter in the brand’s history, will also be unveiled at the Moscow International Automobile Salon. The new Amarok has a heavy-duty frame and suspension designed for harsh operating conditions, a spacious interior and powerful but low-consumption engines. The two-liter 163 HP biTDI engine with Common-Rail system is equipped with adjustable dual turbocharger which gives the revolutionary engine its power and at the same time makes it extremely fuel efficient. The 4MOTION all-wheel drive with downshift and electronic hill ascent/descent assist allows to easily climb a slope up to 45 degrees.

With Volkswagen’s highly diverse model range, dealer network development and a client-oriented policy, Volkswagen’s share on the Russian automobile market has been steadily growing and reached 3.1% in the period from January to July 2010, and 3.2% in July.

The plant in Kaluga produces the following Volkswagen models: Polo Sedan, Golf, Jetta, Passat, Passat CC, Tiguan, Touareg.
